Home stretch for the women, and the winner is Laurel Wassner. 2010 Columbia Triathlon Woman's Champion. Margaret Shapiro is second.

Laurel Wasner is in first place on the run course, at the moment, with Margie Shapiro close behind.  Laurel is on the dam at Centennial Park, now, not too far from the finish line.

Andrew Yoder is about a half mile away. Fans at the finish line are anxious! Andrew Yoder has been at the Columbia Tri five times and he is less than half a mile away from winning it for the first time at twenty.

Andrew Yoder, who finished second in the last two years at the Columbia Triathlon, he has now taken the lead on the bikes. Back at race launch, DC Mayor Adrian Fenty is in the water, racing in this year's Tri.

We are just about halfway through the waves of traithletes starting the race. Some of the waves have about 150 participants. Quite a field!

13 waves will hit the water in all. All in all 2,200 racers in this years Columbia Triathlon. It will take a little over an hour and a half to get them all in the water and starting out on their race.

Three waves are in the water. The transition area is officially closed. Back at race start the announce surveys the crowd for first timers: a few hands go up for first time at all, quite a number more go up for first timers at the Columbia Triathlon. Welcome all!

It looks like the pro men are about half way done the swimming course already.

Pro men are in the water and a minute away from launch. Tim Deboom is among the professionals today, as is Tim O'Donnell. And they are off. The 2010 Columbia Triathlon is under way.

We are a few minutes away from the national anthem, seven minutes away from the start of this year's race with the male professional wave starting. Transition area is being emptied. For the moment, the rain has let up a bit!

Yes, welcome to a very rainy May 23rd in Colulmbia, Maryland. Today's waves set to start at 6:45 am have been delayed fifteen minutes due to the weather. Currently Columbia Triathlon Founder Robert Vigorito is welcoming all  to a couple of rites of spring - the weather and the triathlon - over the announcement system. Events will start at 7 am sharp, a fifteen minute delay from scheduled time. Today marks the 29th running of the Columbia Triathlon, now in its 27th year. Trathlon and running coach Nick Tuttle is our emcee-ing today's race.
