Welcome to 31 year old, Jillianne Shear, mother, coach and full time employee. Her journey began with the death of a mother and her love for an organization called Girls on the Run, a mentoring program for young girls. She joined Solemates, a group that raises money in support of Girls on the Run through running events and triathlons. Within 30 days she was able to raise more than $1,000. This will be her first Iron Girl!!
Jilliane is motivated by the following quote:
“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.”

She was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) two weeks before Christmas in 2009, and in February 2012 underwent a skull based biopsy, a very dangerous procedure. Cancer was found in her skull and strong treatments were administered. Through it all Susan kept saying she wanted to do another triathlon, so in between treatments she began training again. This will be her 5th triathlon! In addition, her son is leaving for the US Marine Corp next week! Her family is here today, is very proud of her and can't wait to welcome their Iron Girl at the finish line!
